US Claims China Preparing for Taiwan Conflict Next Year; Xi Accuses US of Habitual Provocation
Jun 15, 2024, 09:00 PM
A US congressional commission has claimed that China is preparing for a potential conflict in the Taiwan Straits, possibly as early as next year. Analysts stated that this is a habitual move by the US to escalate regional tensions. In response, Chinese President Xi Jinping has accused the United States of attempting to provoke Beijing into attacking Taiwan. Xi conveyed this sentiment during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in April 2023, stating that Washington was trying to trick China into invading Taiwan but that he would not take the bait. Xi has reportedly issued similar warnings to his domestic officials, raising concerns about the information he receives from his subordinates.
