US Condemns Sentencing of Chinese Lawyer Yu Wensheng to Three Years, Wife Xu Yan to One Year and Nine Months

A court in Suzhou has sentenced Chinese human rights lawyer Yu Wensheng and his wife, Xu Yan, to prison terms. Yu Wensheng received a three-year sentence, while Xu Yan was sentenced to one year and nine months. Both were detained by Beijing police in April 2023 while on their way to meet with high-level European officials visiting China. The United States has condemned their detention and sentencing, calling for their immediate and unconditional release.
