President-elect Trump Proposes Canada as 51st State, Questioning $100 Million U.S. Subsidy
Dec 18, 2024, 11:20 AM
President-elect Donald J. Trump has suggested that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States, stating that "many Canadians" desire this change. During a recent meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump referred to Canada as the "Great State of Canada" and addressed Trudeau as "Governor Justin Trudeau." Trump questioned why the U.S. subsidizes Canada "to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year," arguing that incorporating Canada as a U.S. state would save Canadians "massively on taxes and military protection." He described the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state as "a great idea."
