Ontario Premier Doug Ford has threatened to cut off energy exports to the United States in response to President-elect Donald Trump's proposed 25% tariff on all Canadian products, set to be implemented on January 20 or 21, 2025. This tariff threat has led to discussions among Canadian provinces about potential retaliatory measures. Ford emphasized that this action would be a 'last resort,' aimed at protecting the livelihoods of Ontarians and Canadians. In 2023, Ontario exported enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes in Michigan, New York, and Minnesota.
