President-elect Donald J. Trump has suggested that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States, stating that "many Canadians" desire this change. During a recent meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump referred to Canada as the "Great State of Canada" and addressed Trudeau as "Governor Justin Trudeau."
