Sony Group Corp. has launched Soneium, an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain platform developed by its subsidiary Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), a joint venture with Startale Group. The mainnet launch follows a four-month test period that attracted over 14 million users and processed approximately 47 million transactions. Soneium is designed to simplify blockchain interactions for creators and fans, leveraging the OP Stack and Superchain architecture from the Optimism Foundation. The platform aims to support a diverse ecosystem of applications in gaming, finance, and entertainment, with a focus on protecting creator rights and ensuring equitable value distribution. Sony BSL also introduced the Soneium Spark incubation program, which received over 1,700 applications, indicating strong developer interest in building on entertainment-focused blockchains.
