Alexander Smirnov Sentenced to Six Years for Fabricating Biden, Hunter Bribery Story to Influence 2020 Election
Jan 9, 2025, 03:56 AM
Alexander Smirnov, a dual U.S. and Israeli citizen and former FBI informant, was sentenced to six years in prison for fabricating a bribery story involving President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. Smirnov pleaded guilty last month in Los Angeles federal court to tax evasion and lying to the FBI about a phony bribery scheme, which prosecutors claim was an attempt to influence the 2020 presidential election. Smirnov falsely told his FBI handler that executives from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma had paid then-Vice President Biden and his son $5 million each around 2015. His claim resurfaced as part of the House impeachment inquiry into President Biden, which the Biden administration dismissed as a 'stunt.' Smirnov will receive credit for the time he has served behind bars since his arrest last February.
