VisitSyrian Rebels Capture Aleppo's Military Base, Assad Forces Retreat
Nov 29, 2024, 03:22 PM
Syrian opposition forces have made significant advances in Aleppo, capturing key areas and military installations previously held by the Assad regime. Reports indicate that Assad's forces are retreating from Aleppo to Al-Safira, with some sources suggesting that the regime's army has largely fled the city, leaving no defensive line. Rebels from Idlib province have taken control of Jam'eyyat al-Zahra’a neighborhood and a military base known for its use as an interrogation and torture center. The rapid advance of the opposition has led to the release of prisoners from regime prisons in Aleppo. Negotiations are reportedly underway for remaining regime forces to surrender or be allowed safe exit. The fall of Aleppo, Syria's largest city, could mark a significant turning point in the conflict, although it is not seen as the end of the Assad regime.
