HTS-Led Offensive Captures 46th Regiment Base Near Aleppo
Nov 27, 2024, 02:23 PM
Syrian rebel groups, including Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), have launched a significant offensive against government forces in western Aleppo province, Syria. The offensive, named 'Deterrence of Aggression,' began on November 27, 2024, and has resulted in the capture of several villages and towns, including Qubtan al-Jabal, Anjara, Hawar, Bala, Hayrdrakl, Saloum, Jam'iyat al-Ma'arri, al-Qasimiyah, Kafr Bisin, Hoor, Orem al-Suqra, and Ajel. Rebel forces have reportedly advanced to within 3 kilometers of Aleppo city after seizing key positions such as the 46th Regiment base. The Syrian Arab Army, backed by Russian air support, is responding with heavy artillery and airstrikes, including the use of cluster munitions, against rebel positions. There are reports of Russian special forces involvement, with unconfirmed claims of at least one Russian soldier killed and another captured. Syrian National Army (SNA) reinforcements are moving toward Aleppo but have not yet directly participated in the offensive. The clashes have resulted in casualties on both sides and the seizure of military equipment, including tanks and armored vehicles.
