Disney's 'Moana 2' has shattered box office records over the Thanksgiving weekend, earning $221 million domestically over the five-day holiday period, according to studio estimates. The sequel to the 2016 animated film not only set a new Thanksgiving opening record but also achieved the biggest five-day debut for an animated film, surpassing the previous records held by 'Frozen II' and 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie'. 'Moana 2' grossed $28 million on Thanksgiving Day and $54.5 million on Black Friday, breaking the Black Friday box office record previously held by 'Frozen II' ($34.1 million). Over the three-day weekend, the film earned $135.5 million. Globally, 'Moana 2' has amassed $386.3 million, outperforming its $150 million production budget in just three days. The film's success contributed to the highest-grossing Thanksgiving weekend in history, with over 30 million people attending cinemas in the U.S. and total domestic box office receipts amounting to $422 million.
