Dec 9, 2024, 01:41 PM
Jacques Audiard's French musical comedy 'Emilia Pérez' leads the 2025 Golden Globe nominations with 10 nods, making it the most-nominated film ever in the musical or comedy category and the second-most nominated film in Golden Globes history, behind 'Nashville' which holds the record with 11 nominations. The Netflix film, about a Mexican drug lord who undergoes gender-affirming surgery to become a woman, is nominated for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress (twice), Best Original Song (twice), Best Non-English Language Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. 'Emilia Pérez' surpassed the previous record of nine nominations held by 'Cabaret' (1972) and 'Barbie' (2023). Other leading nominees include 'The Brutalist' with seven nominations and 'Conclave' with six. 'Wicked' received four nominations but was considered to have received less recognition than expected. 'The Substance' received five nominations, including Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Director, Best Actress for Demi Moore, Best Supporting Actress for Margaret Qualley, and Best Screenplay. The nominations were announced by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut at the Beverly Hilton on December 9, 2024, marking the official start of awards season. The 82nd Golden Globe Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 5, 2025, and will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
