WNBA Reports Record 156% Growth in Attendance, TV Ratings Tripled
Jun 11, 2024, 02:33 PM
The WNBA has reported significant growth in both attendance and television ratings in the first month of the season. Attendance has increased by 156% compared to last year, with approximately 400,000 fans attending games, filling arenas to 94% capacity. More than half of all WNBA games this year have been sellouts. Television viewership has nearly tripled, averaging 1.32 million viewers per game. This surge in popularity is attributed to the addition of prominent rookies such as Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Cameron Brink. The league also highlighted a more diverse audience, with increases in Hispanic and Black viewership. The WNBA has achieved all-time highs in League Pass subscriptions and merchandise sales. The first month drew the highest attendance since 1998, with the largest attendance in 26 years. A Fever-Mystics game set a new viewership record on ION, and nearly a million viewers watched a Liberty-Sun game on ABC.
