White Sox to Hire Will Venable, 42, as 44th Manager After Record 121 Losses
Oct 30, 2024, 03:42 AM
The Chicago White Sox are set to hire Will Venable as their new manager, making him the 44th manager in franchise history. The decision comes after a historic 121-loss season, the worst in modern MLB history. Venable, who turned 42 on the day of the hiring announcement, was previously the associate manager for the Texas Rangers. He brings six years of coaching experience, having worked with the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Rangers since concluding his playing career. Venable was in the mix for the White Sox managerial position the last time it was vacant and was also a finalist for the Miami Marlins job before accepting the role with Chicago. The White Sox have not officially announced the hiring yet but are hoping Venable will rejuvenate the struggling franchise with a focus on accountability and rebuilding. Meanwhile, Craig Albernaz, the other finalist for both the White Sox and Marlins positions, is now the favorite to become the Marlins' next manager.
