Wendy Williams Denies Cognitive Impairment on 'The Breakfast Club,' Calls Guardianship 'Prison'
Jan 16, 2025, 05:45 PM
Wendy Williams, the former host of 'The Wendy Williams Show,' has publicly denied claims of being cognitively impaired and criticized her guardianship, likening it to a 'prison.' In a rare interview on 'The Breakfast Club,' Williams, who has been under guardianship since 2022, expressed frustration with her situation, stating, 'I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I’m saying? But I feel like I’m in prison.' She described her living conditions at a New York care facility as isolating, surrounded by much older residents. Williams' niece, Alex, supported her aunt's claims, describing the facility as a 'luxury prison' and alleging that Williams has been cut off from family and friends. The interview comes after Williams' care team announced her diagnoses of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia last year. Williams' guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey, has been at the center of controversy, particularly following the release of the Lifetime documentary 'Where Is Wendy Williams?' which Morrissey attempted to block. Williams' family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $50,000 to help bring her back to Florida, where they believe she can be better supported.
