Alibaba's Taobao and Tmall to Accept Tencent's WeChat Pay
Sep 4, 2024, 09:54 AM
Alibaba's e-commerce platforms, including Taobao and Tmall, will begin accepting Tencent's WeChat Pay as a payment option. This move marks a significant shift in the Chinese e-commerce landscape, eradicating one of the biggest barriers between the competing online ecosystems of Alibaba and Tencent. The functionality adaptation with Taobao platform merchants is currently being rolled out, according to a draft plan. Alibaba's decision comes as the Chinese government concludes its three-year-long crackdown on the company. Alibaba is affiliated with the Jack Ma-founded Ant Group's Alipay, which is WeChat's main rival for online payments in China.
