Malian troops and Russian Wagner mercenaries engaged in intense combat with separatist rebels near the border with Algeria. The fighting, which took place around the city of Tinzaouatène, resulted in significant casualties. Reports indicate that 50 Wagner personnel and 10 Malian soldiers were killed, with additional reports of 34 KIA and 3 POWs. The separatist alliance, CSP-DPA, claimed that the Malian army and Wagner forces attempted to capture Tinzaouatène, which is the last base of civilians who fled abuses. Several Wagner fighters were captured alive by the rebels. Additionally, an administrator of the prominent Russian Telegram channel 'Grey Zone' was reportedly killed in the ambush. The battle marks one of the deadliest days for Wagner forces in Africa.
