Mali's Tuareg Rebels Kill Dozens of Soldiers and Wagner Mercenaries in Livestreamed Clashes Near Tinzaouatene
Jul 27, 2024, 02:02 PM
Mali's northern Tuareg rebels have reported killing and injuring dozens of Malian soldiers and Wagner mercenaries in recent clashes near the Algerian border. The fighting, which took place around the city of Tinzaouatene, involved the Malian army and Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group. The Tuareg rebels, part of the CSP-DPA alliance, repelled the attack launched by the Malian army and Wagner forces. The rebels also claimed to have seized military equipment and found a Russian FPV drone. The Malian army reported losing two soldiers but claimed to have killed around 20 rebels. The clashes, which were livestreamed, have left vehicles and other military assets abandoned on the battlefield. Reports indicate that 32+ corpses, mostly Russians, were found, and Al-Qaeda’s JNIM targeted fleeing Russians.
