US Jobless Claims Rise Slightly to 230,000, Above 227,000 Estimate

The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits increased slightly to 230,000 for the week ending September 7, up from the previous week's 228,000 and matching the forecast of 230,000. This was slightly above the 227,000 estimate. Continuing jobless claims for the week ending August 31 remained steady at 1.85 million, in line with expectations and up from the prior 1.838 million. Despite the slight rise, jobless claims remain historically low, indicating a still-strong labor market. The four-week moving average of initial claims also edged up to 230,750 from 230,000.
