Russia Launches 111 Drones on Kyiv, Injuring Six and Damaging Residential Buildings on New Year's Day
Jan 1, 2025, 08:20 AM
Russia launched a drone strike on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, early on New Year's Day, January 1, 2025, injuring at least six people, including a pregnant woman. The assault involved over 100 drones, with 111 drones launched across Ukraine, targeting at least 10 regions. In Kyiv, the drones caused damage to residential buildings in two districts, with debris falling on structures and causing fires. The Ukrainian air force reported that 63 drones were shot down, while 46 failed to reach their targets. The attack resulted in partial destruction of the top floors of a residential building in the Pecherskyi neighborhood and sparked fires in multiple locations, including a non-residential building and a garage in the Sviatoshynskyi neighborhood. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted that the city's air defenses were actively repelling the enemy attack. Rescue efforts are ongoing as the city deals with the aftermath of the strike.
