TSMC to Begin 2nm Production in Taiwan by 2025, Arizona by 2028 Under NSTC Rules

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plans to begin mass production of its advanced 2nm process technology in Taiwan by 2025, with potential overseas production in democracies being considered after that year. According to filings with the US Department of Commerce, TSMC may start 2nm production in the United States by 2028, specifically in its Arizona facilities. Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) head stated that TSMC can only invest in advanced technology in foreign countries three years after mass production of the same process begins domestically. The move comes amid debates over the security implications of overseas chip manufacturing and geopolitical concerns.
