Buccaneers Sign Tristan Wirfs to Record Five-Year, $140.63M Extension
Aug 1, 2024, 12:16 PM
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs to a five-year, $140.63 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history. This deal includes $88.24 million guaranteed and will see Wirfs earn an average of $28.1 million per year. The extension comes after a period of negotiations where the two sides were reportedly 'miles apart.' Wirfs, a three-time Pro-Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro, has been a cornerstone of the Buccaneers' offensive line, having played both right and left tackle positions. Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht and head coach Todd Bowles have expressed their appreciation for Wirfs' commitment to the team, noting that he has not held out despite the ongoing contract discussions. The new deal also makes Wirfs the highest-paid player in Buccaneers franchise history. Wirfs hails from Mount Vernon, Iowa, and the deal was negotiated by Jeremy Newberry of OctagonFootball.
