Japan Issues First-Ever Corrective Order to Toyota Over Certification Misconduct in Seven Models
Jul 31, 2024, 07:14 AM
The Japanese government has issued a corrective order to Toyota Motor Corporation due to widespread, intentional misconduct in the company's vehicle certification procedures. The order follows an on-site investigation by Japan's transport ministry, which revealed irregularities in the certification of seven Toyota models. Among these models, four are currently in production, while production has already ended for the remaining three. The misconduct was discovered in additional models certified overseas, with six of the seven models certified outside Japan. Specific models affected include the Prius Alpha, certified in the UK, and five others certified in Belgium. The transport ministry has requested overseas authorities to review the certification of these models. The affected models currently in production include Noah, Voxy, Harrier, and Lexus LM. Toyota has acknowledged the misconduct and issued an apology. This is the first-ever corrective order issued to Toyota.
