14 Attorneys General Sue TikTok Over Child Safety, Mental Health Concerns
Oct 8, 2024, 03:45 PM
A bipartisan coalition of 14 attorneys general from 13 states, including New York and California, and the District of Columbia filed lawsuits against TikTok on Tuesday. The lawsuits allege that the social media platform is addictive and harms the mental health of children. The attorneys general, including Brian Schwalb and Letitia James, claim that TikTok's design intentionally targets young users, leading to issues such as anxiety, sleep loss, and body image problems. The lawsuits also accuse TikTok of misleading the public about the safety of its platform and failing to protect young users. TikTok has responded by strongly disagreeing with the claims, stating that many of the allegations are inaccurate and misleading.
