Ukraine Bans Telegram for Officials, Military on State-Issued Devices Due to Security Concerns
Sep 20, 2024, 10:51 AM
Ukraine has imposed a ban on the use of the Telegram messenger app for government officials, military personnel, and critical infrastructure facilities. The decision, effective from September 19, was made by the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity due to security concerns. The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine announced the prohibition on September 20, which includes the installation and use of Telegram on official and state-issued devices. Exceptions are made for individuals whose use of Telegram is deemed necessary. The app, founded by Russian-born Pavel Durov, is considered a threat to national security by Ukrainian authorities.
