Supreme Court to Hear Kolkata Rape-Murder Case on Monday, Orders Protection of Victim's Identity

The Supreme Court of India has taken significant steps in the investigation of the Kolkata rape-murder case involving a doctor from R G Kar Hospital. A bench led by the Chief Justice will hear the case on Monday. The Kolkata Police Commissioner visited RG Kar Hospital a day before the hearing. The court has ordered the protection of the victim's identity amid widespread social media posts disclosing her name and photos. The court has directed the Ministry of Electronics and IT to appoint a nodal officer to monitor unauthorized publications and ensure the removal of images of the victim from social media. The Supreme Court has also reviewed the status report from the CBI, noting substantial leads in the investigation. Additionally, the court has questioned the continued employment of individuals at R G Kar Hospital who are under probe for financial irregularities. The progress by the West Bengal government in installing CCTVs and constructing necessary facilities has been deemed slow by the court.
