11-Year-Old Girl Abducted, Raped, and Murdered in West Bengal, Sparking Protests
Oct 5, 2024, 08:30 AM
In West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, an 11-year-old girl studying in class 4 was abducted, gang-raped, and murdered while returning from tuition. Her body, which bore several injury marks, was later recovered from the bank of the River Ganges in Kripakhali village. The incident has sparked significant outrage and protests among locals, leading to arson at a police outpost and vandalism of vehicles. BJP leaders have strongly criticized the state government, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to ensure safety and law and order during the auspicious period of Devi Paksha and Durga Puja. One person has been arrested in connection with the crime. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also expressed concern over the incident.
