Official statement from the Washington Post
Washington Post Will No Longer Endorse Presidential Candidates
Oct 25, 2024, 04:55 PM
The Washington Post has announced it will not endorse a candidate in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, marking the first time since 1988 that the newspaper has refrained from making a presidential endorsement. Publisher Will Lewis stated, "The Washington Post will not be making an endorsement of a presidential candidate in this election. Nor in any future presidential election. We are returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates." He added, "Our job as the newspaper of the capital city of the most important country in the world is to be independent." Former Washington Post Executive Editor Marty Baron criticized the decision, calling it "cowardice, a moment of darkness that will leave democracy as a casualty."
