Biden Announces $2.5 Billion Aid to Ukraine as Zelensky Orders Production of 3,000 Missiles and 30,000 Drones
Jan 3, 2025, 09:04 AM
President Joe Biden announced a new military aid package for Ukraine valued at nearly $2.5 billion, marking one of his final actions to bolster military support to Kyiv before handing over power to President-elect Donald Trump in January. The package includes $1.25 billion in immediate military assistance from U.S. reserves and $1.22 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) for long-term procurement. This aid comes as Ukraine continues to develop its own military capabilities, including the Trembita cruise missile, which costs about $10,000 per unit and is being designed to reach Moscow at a range of up to 400 km. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that President Zelensky has instructed the production of 3,000 missiles and 30,000 long-range drones, with a total investment of approximately $60 billion USD allocated for defense and security.
