Biden Announces $2.5 Billion Military Aid to Ukraine Including Artillery and Armor Before Leaving Office
Dec 30, 2024, 11:17 AM
President Joe Biden has announced a new military assistance package to Ukraine worth nearly $2.5 billion, as the United States continues to support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. The aid package includes a $1.25 billion drawdown from existing U.S. military stocks and a $1.22 billion allocation under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). This assistance includes a significant amount of ammunition, including artillery shells and missiles, as well as hundreds of armored vehicles. The Pentagon is in the process of delivering hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds, thousands of rockets, and hundreds of armored vehicles to bolster Ukraine's defenses. "Today, I am proud to announce nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression," President Biden said. This latest aid package, which follows recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, is part of the Biden administration's ongoing efforts to provide maximum support to Kyiv before the end of his term on January 20. The United States has supplied a total of $176 billion in aid to Ukraine, including military equipment and administrative costs.
