Official announcement from the UK government or Home Office
UK Requires £10 ETA for Visitors from 48 Countries, Including Transit, Starting January 8
Jan 8, 2025, 01:31 PM
Starting from January 8, 2025, the United Kingdom has implemented a new entry requirement for visitors from 48 non-European countries. Travelers from nations including the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, and Israel are now required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before entering or transiting through the UK. The ETA costs £10 (approximately $12.50), is valid for two years, and is mandatory for all travelers, including children and those transiting. Applications must be made through the UK government's website. The move aims to strengthen UK borders and enhance security, as well as reduce illegal immigration. From April 2025, the requirement will be extended to European Union citizens.
