Amazon Workers at 7 Facilities Strike in Largest U.S. Action Led by Teamsters Union
Dec 19, 2024, 03:31 PM
Thousands of Amazon workers across the United States have initiated a strike at seven facilities, marking what the Teamsters Union claims to be the largest strike against Amazon in U.S. history. The strike, which began at 6 a.m. on Thursday, is occurring during the peak of the holiday shopping season and involves workers from facilities in New York, Georgia, California, and Illinois. The Teamsters Union, representing nearly 10,000 Amazon workers at 10 facilities, has accused Amazon of ignoring a deadline for contract negotiations and failing to negotiate a labor agreement. 'If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon's insatiable greed,' said Teamsters General President Sean O'Brien. Amazon, however, stated that the strike would not impact its operations, asserting that the protesters are mostly outsiders and not Amazon employees or partners. The union's actions are aimed at pressuring Amazon to come to the negotiating table for better benefits, higher wages, and safer working conditions, representing 7,000 workers nationwide.
