The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a three-month stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown, with a vote of 341-82. The measure, which funds federal agencies at current levels through December 20, now moves to the Senate for approval. The bill was passed with significant Democratic support, as 82 Republicans voted against it. The stopgap measure also includes a $231 million increase in funding for the Secret Service. House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized that there will be no large year-end spending bill, commonly referred to as a 'Christmas omnibus.' The House Rules Committee had opted against voting on the bill, necessitating Democratic support. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise announced the consideration of the stopgap bill under suspension of the rules. The bill does not include Trump's demand for proof of citizenship to vote. The Senate is expected to vote on the measure soon, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer expressing confidence that it will pass before the end of the day.
