SEC Adopts NFL-Style Player Availability Reports Starting Wednesday for 2024-25
Aug 29, 2024, 07:06 PM
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has announced the implementation of mandatory player availability and injury reports for its conference games in football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball, effective from the 2024-25 athletics year. The new policy requires SEC schools to submit availability reports three days prior to each football game, starting on Wednesday for Saturday games, with daily updates leading to a final report 90 minutes before kickoff. For basketball and baseball, reports must be filed the night before the game with a game day update. Players will be categorized as available, probable, questionable, doubtful, or out, following an NFL-style system. The policy aims to increase transparency and reduce external pressures on teams. Non-compliance will result in fines ranging from $25,000 for a first offense to $100,000 for subsequent offenses. This move aligns the SEC with other conferences like the Big Ten and MAC, which have similar reporting systems.
