NFLPA Sues DraftKings for $30M Over Reignmakers NFT Amid NFL's Tightened Gambling Policies
Aug 22, 2024, 03:25 PM
The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) has filed a civil lawsuit against DraftKings for 'anticipatory breach of contract' following the shutdown of the Reignmakers NFT Marketplace in July. The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of New York and may involve $30 million owed. This legal action comes amid the NFL's efforts to tighten its gambling policies, including assigning integrity officers to each team and mandating in-person gambling policy training for all 32 NFL teams. The NFL has also committed $6.4 million over three years to the National Council on Problem Gambling to address issues related to sports betting. Additionally, the league has observed an increase in aggressive threats directed at players and staff, attributed to gambling-related activities.
