Jul 10, 2024, 10:32 AM
A Russian national residing in Osaka Prefecture has been arrested in Japan on suspicion of circumventing sanctions by illegally exporting personal watercraft and a ship engine to Russia. This marks the first case of its kind since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The suspect, an executive at a Russian trade firm, is accused of exporting more than two dozen goods that could potentially be converted for military use. The items in question include jet skis and marine diesel engines, which were allegedly transported on a container ship. Japanese news outlet Nikkei reported the arrest on July 10.
