South Korea Sends Boeing 737-800 Black Box to U.S. After Jeju Air Crash Kills 179 at Muan Airport
Jan 1, 2025, 11:00 AM
Investigators probing the Jeju Air crash in South Korea, which resulted in the deaths of 179 out of the 181 people on board, have extracted initial data from one of the Boeing 737-800's black boxes. The crash, which occurred on Sunday at Muan International Airport, is the worst aviation disaster on South Korean soil. The damaged flight data recorder, deemed unrecoverable for domestic data extraction, will be sent to the United States for analysis by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. The cockpit voice recorder's data extraction has been completed, and the process of converting this data into audio files is underway. South Korean and U.S. investigators, including representatives from Boeing, are jointly examining the crash site to determine the cause of the accident. Two flight attendants survived the incident.
