South Korea Recovers Black Boxes From Crashed Jeju Air Jet at Muan Airport, 167 Fatalities Out of 181 Passengers
Dec 29, 2024, 11:12 AM
South Korea's transport ministry has confirmed the recovery of both black boxes from a Jeju Air passenger jet that crashed at Muan International Airport, resulting in at least 167 fatalities out of 181 passengers. The incident involved a Boeing 737-800, which was returning from Bangkok and crashed after skidding off the runway and colliding with a concrete structure. Only two passengers survived the crash. The black boxes are expected to aid in the investigation into the cause of the crash, which preliminary reports suggest may have been due to the landing gear failing to deploy. The crash has led to a significant response from emergency services, with over 1,560 personnel involved in the rescue and recovery efforts.
