Pentagon Finds $2 Billion in Accounting Errors, Total Ukraine Aid Misvalued at $8.2 Billion
Jul 26, 2024, 08:46 AM
The Pentagon has identified an additional $2 billion in accounting errors related to aid sent to Ukraine, according to a U.S. Government Accountability Office report. This discovery, revealed on July 25 and July 26, increases the total improperly valued material to $8.2 billion. The errors stemmed from the use of replacement costs instead of original purchase prices and depreciation for defense items such as ammunition, missiles, and other equipment. As a result, the Defense Department can send an additional $2 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine to cover the amount already approved by U.S. President Joe Biden.
