Judge Blocks $7 Million Sale of Infowars to The Onion
Dec 10, 2024, 09:07 PM
A federal bankruptcy judge in Houston, Christopher Lopez, has rejected the sale of Alex Jones' Infowars platform to The Onion, the satirical news outlet, after a two-day hearing. The judge cited a lack of clarity and flaws in the auction process, stating that the $7 million bid—comprising $1.75 million in cash from The Onion and $5.25 million from the families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims—did not maximize Infowars' value. Jones had contested the sale, alleging collusion and fraud during the November bankruptcy auction. The decision allows Jones to remain at Infowars in Austin, Texas. The trustee overseeing the Infowars auction had asked the court to approve The Onion's winning bid, but the judge ruled against it, noting that the auction process was improperly conducted.
