Judge Christopher Lopez Blocks Infowars Sale to The Onion Over Flawed Auction
Dec 11, 2024, 04:47 AM
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones appeared in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Texas to urge Judge Christopher Lopez to block the $7 million sale of his Infowars website to satirical news outlet The Onion. The Onion's bid, which included $1.75 million in cash and contributions from the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims, was declared the winning offer at a bankruptcy auction in November. Jones alleged that the auction was improperly conducted with collusion and fraud, arguing that the sale should be halted. On December 11, 2024, Judge Lopez rejected the sale of Infowars to The Onion, citing a "great lack of clarity" in the auction process and stating, "I don't think it's enough money." The judge ruled that the outcome did not secure the best possible bids for the creditors. As a result, Alex Jones can remain at Infowars in Austin, Texas.
