Jets Fire Head Coach Robert Saleh After London Loss; Jeff Ulbrich Named Interim Coach
Oct 8, 2024, 03:42 PM
The New York Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh following a disappointing start to the season, which saw the team post a 2-3 record and suffer a loss in London. Saleh, who had a 20-36 record during his tenure, was informed of the decision by Jets owner Woody Johnson on Tuesday morning. Johnson, who has never made an in-season coaching change before, cited high expectations and the team's lack of progress as reasons for the move. Saleh was reportedly blindsided by the firing. Jeff Ulbrich, the Jets' defensive coordinator, has been named interim head coach. Despite speculation, Johnson stated that quarterback Aaron Rodgers had no influence on the decision to fire Saleh and that the decision was his alone. The Jets do not plan to part ways with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who was reportedly considered for demotion by Saleh before his firing.
