Delhi Minister Atishi has directed the Additional Chief Secretary Revenue to initiate a magisterial enquiry into the deaths of 14 inmates at the Asha Kiran shelter home in Rohini, Delhi, since January 2024. The deaths, which include 13 children, have occurred over the past 20 days, raising significant concerns about the conditions at the government-run facility. The investigation is expected to provide a preliminary report within 24 hours and a full report within 48 hours. Various political leaders, including BJP's Dushyant Gautam and Congress' Devendra Yadav, have criticized the Delhi government for negligence. The National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma and other officials have visited the site to assess the situation. A total of 27 deaths have been reported since January 2024, involving mentally challenged individuals.
