Delhi Orders Probe into 27 Deaths, Including 13 Children in 20 Days, at Asha Kiran Shelter Home
Aug 2, 2024, 08:09 AM
The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial probe into the deaths at the Asha Kiran shelter home for the mentally challenged in Rohini. Since January 2024, 27 inmates have died, with 14 deaths reported in the past month alone. A recent investigation by a sub-divisional magistrate found that 13 children died at the shelter home in the past 20 days. Delhi Minister Atishi has directed the ACS Revenue to initiate the enquiry and submit a report. The deaths have sparked political reactions, with BJP leaders blaming the Delhi government for negligence. National Commission for Women chief Rekha Sharma and BJP's Dushyant Gautam have also criticized the management of the shelter home.
