Cabinet Approves Rs 12,461 Crore for 31,350 MW Hydropower Projects

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Power to modify the scheme of budgetary support for the cost of enabling infrastructure for hydroelectric projects. The total outlay for this modification is Rs. 12,461 crore, which will be implemented from FY 2024-25 to FY 2031-32. The scheme aims to support hydroelectric projects with a cumulative generation capacity of about 31,350 MW. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that this decision is expected to boost infrastructure development in remote areas, accelerate hydro power growth, create jobs, and drive investments in the sector.
