VisitEU Gas Imports from Russia Surpass US for First Time in Two Years
Sep 2, 2024, 09:43 AM
The European Union has increased its gas imports from Russia, surpassing imports from the United States for the first time in nearly two years. According to data from the Brussels-based consulting firm Bruegel, the EU imported 12.7 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia between April and June 2024, compared to 12.3 billion cubic meters from the US. Despite ongoing tensions and the war in Ukraine, Russia remains the second-largest gas supplier to the EU, following Norway. Gazprom, Russia's state-controlled gas company, continues to ship gas to Europe through Ukraine, with a reported volume of 42 million cubic meters at the Sudzha metering station on Monday.
