C-Lion1 Submarine Cable Between Santahamina and Rostock Severed

The C-Lion1 submarine communication cable, which runs between Santahamina, Finland and Rostock, Germany, has been severed, disrupting critical data traffic. The cable, which is the only direct communication link between Finland and Central Europe, was found to be defective, and the cause of the break remains unknown. Finnish authorities, along with European entities, have launched an investigation to determine whether the damage was due to external forces such as anchoring or trawling, or if it was a deliberate act of sabotage. The cable, spanning nearly 1200 km along the Baltic Sea, is crucial for high-speed internet and other communications. Finnish state-owned company Cinia is leading the investigation, with repair efforts already underway.
