Tesla Launches New Model Y in China at 263,500 Yuan with Up to 719 km Range
Jan 10, 2025, 01:18 AM
Tesla has officially launched the refreshed Model Y, codenamed 'Juniper', in China, introducing significant design and feature updates. The new Model Y features a redesigned exterior with a sleeker front and rear, including the use of 'TESLA' text badging instead of the logo. It comes with new front-facing cameras integrated into the bumper and a die-cast rear underbody, reducing the number of parts from 70 to one, enhancing efficiency and durability. The interior receives updates such as a new steering wheel design, powered rear seats, and an option for vegan suede upholstery in the black interior. The vehicle is offered in two variants: a rear-wheel-drive version with a 62.5 kWh battery pack offering a CLTC range of 593 km, starting at 263,500 yuan ($35,940), and a long-range all-wheel-drive version with a 78.4 kWh battery pack offering a CLTC range of 719 km, starting at 303,500 yuan. The suspension has been retuned for smoother handling, added comfort, more responsive steering, and a quieter ride. Deliveries in China are expected to begin in March, pending regulatory approval. The launch includes a special 'Launch Series' edition featuring unique elements such as a rear lift gate badge, puddle light badge, doorsill plate wordmark, and charging console wordmark.
