Sweden Orders 44 Leopard 2A8 Tanks and Upgrades for $2 Billion from KNDS

Sweden is set to enhance its defense capabilities through a substantial acquisition of 44 new Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks, alongside an upgrade of 66 existing Leopard 2 tanks. The deal, valued at approximately €1.74 million, is part of a broader military investment by the Swedish Armed Forces, which includes a total expenditure of $2 billion from KNDS. This acquisition follows recent reports of the Russian military receiving over 100 new T-90M and T-72M tanks, indicating an ongoing arms race in the region. Additionally, the Swedish order is anticipated to be complemented by a smaller order from Denmark for additional Leopard 2 tanks.
