South Korea to Deploy 'StarWars' Laser Weapons Against North Korean Drones This Year
Jul 11, 2024, 06:46 AM
South Korea is set to start production and deployment of anti-aircraft laser weapons designed to intercept North Korean drones. This initiative will make South Korea the first country in the world to deploy and operate such advanced laser weapons in the military. The laser system, referred to as 'StarWars' laser weapons, is aimed at enhancing the country's defense capabilities against aerial threats from North Korea. According to South Korea's arms procurement agency, the laser weapons will be operational within this year. The laser-based system is specifically designed for targeting small drones and copters, with each shot costing approximately $1.50. Despite this advancement, South Korea acknowledges that the U.S. and Israel are ahead in laser weapon development.
