North Korea Sends 720 Trash Balloons to South Korea, Military Agreement Suspended
Jun 2, 2024, 09:11 AM
North Korea has escalated tensions with South Korea by sending hundreds of balloons filled with trash, including human waste, across the border. Over the past week, more than 720 balloons were launched overnight, with many landing in Seoul and the surrounding Gyeonggi Province. This act is reportedly in retaliation for anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent by South Korean activists. South Korea's military has issued warnings to the public and received over 800 reports of these balloons. Additionally, North Korea has engaged in GPS jamming for five days. In response to the ongoing provocations, South Korea has decided to suspend the 2018 inter-Korean military agreement, which was aimed at reducing hostilities between the two nations. The South Korean National Security Council is also convening to discuss further actions.
